When to go
The best times to make the most of Florence’s myriad appeals are mid-April to June and September to October.During these periods the weather is ideal to wander around the streets, pausing to sip an aperitivo on a terrace, as the soft light showcases the city’s monuments. You can attend a concert at the prestigious music festival in May or the traditional final of the Calcio Storico in June, a sort of football game in which the players wear Renaissance costume. The colourful and lively Festa della Rificolona takes place in early September and thousands of paper lanterns illuminate the city and the river.
During the rest of the year, the weather is either too hot in summer, too rainy in autumn, particularly in November, or too wet and cold in winter.
