The Essential
Interesting
In the heart of the Chianti vineyards, midway between Siena and Florence, this small town is considered the capital of Chianti: it was here, in 1924, that the Consortium for the protection of Chianti Classico was founded and that the black rooster symbol was adopted. Be sure to stop at a local enoteca (wine bar) and order a glass of wine, which will be served with an almost religious fervour. Don't miss the unusual Via delle Volte, a street with vaults along almost its entire length.
