Situated approximately 40km south of Siena, this medieval town is dominated by its impressive fortress (rocca) which overlooks the surrounding plain. Montalcino is known throughout Italy for its excellent red wine, Brunello, one of Tuscany's best appellations, and the town offers plenty of opportunities for wine tasting. It's also worth taking time to explore the picturesque narrow streets of the town.
