The Latin name of this small town, Mons Silis, bears witness to its mining origins during Roman times. Situated near Padua, Monselice has retained a large section of its walls and is dominated by the ruins of a castle. From Piazza Mazzini, the picturesque Via del Santuario leads to the castle, the Romanesque cathedral, the sanctuary of the Seven Churches and the Villa Duodo-Balbi with its Italian garden.
