Basilica of the Salute (Holy Mary of Health)

Recommended
Built in 1631 by Baldassare Longhena to ward off a plague epidemic, this immense church crowned with a dome and standing almost exactly at the mouth of the Grand Canal, is one of the best-known sights of Venice. A spectacular flight of steps leads to the impressively solemn interior, which houses famous masterpieces such as The Wedding of Cana by Tintoretto, works by Titian on the ceiling of the Sacristy, and altarpieces painted by Luca Giordano.
