Island of Murano

Recommended
Murano, the largest island of the lagoon, is in fact a cluster of five islets. The art of glassblowing has been carried out here since the 13C. Walk around its quiet streets, divided, as in Venice, by a winding "grand" canal. The landscape is dominated by the glassblowing factories and workshops, lending it an industrial feel, but Murano is also home to two fine churches and several outstanding palaces.

Our reports

Discover Venice along the lagoon

It’s a bit of a “chicken and egg” situation. Without the lagoon, Venice would not be Venice but without Venice, the lagoon would not be a lagoon. 550 km² of water – in other words one of the biggest lagoons in the world: Venice is beautiful because it reigns supreme in the midst of a liquid mirror, surrounded by small bucolic islands.
