Built in 1354 by Cangrande II, this attractive fortified ensemble (including Scaligero bridge) is made up of two parts separated by a passage overlooked by an extraordinary equestrian statue of Cangrande I della Scala. The castle is home to the Museo di Castelvecchio, a stunning example of modern museum architecture designed by the architect Carlo Scarpa. The painting section offers an excellent overview of 13C-16C painting by the School of Verona. Visitors are also able to take a tour of the ramparts.
