When to go
Luxembourg’s temperate climate is very pleasant. The sunniest period, and the busiest in terms of events, runs from May to August. At Pentecost, Echternach is invaded by curious sightseers who come to witness a picturesque UNESCO intangible cultural heritage event, during which the participants hop through the city’s medieval streets. From June to September, the Summer in the City festival stages a host of concerts, street performances and open-air movie showings.
In spring and autumn, the forests, rich in vivid colours, are greatly appreciated by walkers and nature lovers. Make sure you take waterproof garments, because it often rains at this time of year.
Winter is, on the whole, mild. Snow is, however, not unheard of but the sight of the historic fortified city of Luxembourg clad in snow is not without charm. In December, the feast of St Nicholas and Christmas illuminate the city during the Winter Lights.
