Nieuw Land Poldermuseum (Museum of the Polders)

This museum close to the locks is in the shape of binoculars resting on the cross-section of a polder dike. It houses a permanent exhibition on the engineering works of the Zuiderzee. The history of the struggle against the water and living with the water is told here through historic films, sound recordings, models and interactive software. A large section is dedicated to the construction of the dikes, the draining of the new polders and their first inhabitants.
