The Essential
In the 1920s, the De Stijl and Dada movements had a significant impact on this commercial and industrial town. Its most famous sons are the Rinsema brothers, friends of Theo van Doesburg, the founder of the De Stijl movement, who left their imprint on the town. He painted the houses of the Parrot district, around Torenstraat, in attractive primary colours. The nearby small Dr8888 museum pays homage to this period.
