Martena Museum

Occupying a château built in 1506 by the aristocrat Hessel de Martena, this museum delves into the history of Franeker, through fine collections silverware, porcelain and glassware. The memory of Anna Maria van Schurman (1606-1678) is also evoked: this entomologist and draughtswoman was part of the Labadist sect, founded by French émigré Jean de Labadie (1610-1674), who aimed to bring Protestantism to early Christianity.
