Elburg
The Essential
The small town of Elburg, once a lively port on the Zuiderzee (14C), used to belong to the Hanseatic League and has preserved its medieval character - it is still enclosed by its quadrilateral shaped walls (14C), now transformed into gardens ringed by canals. Its streets, laid out in a grid system, are lined with beautiful houses; those alongside the narrow canal (De Beekstraat) are particularly attractive.
