Located in the charming valley of the Geul River, Valkenburg is a small, old town that is a very popular summer resort, attracting holidaymakers with its landscape of gently rolling hills, its great leisure parks and numerous amusements. The little historic nucleus is still guarded by two of its original gates with walkways and vestiges of its seigniorial castle. There are also many caves in the hills surrounding the town.
