Brabantse Biesbosch

Interesting
Designated a national park in 1994, De Biesbosch (or Biesbos) is made up of three parts and extends over the provinces of North Brabant and South Holland. This 40 000ha region was hit by the high tide of St Elisabeth in 1421. Thanks to major dike construction works, only a 7 100ha zone is now submerged. Its little islands are made up of reeds, rushes and grass meadows. Biesbosch is very popular with amateur sailors and several water sports can be practised here.
