The Netherlands Maritime Museum
Formerly the Admiralty's main warehouse, this vast building, supported by 18 000 piles, has been home to the National Maritime Museum since 1973. The collections present a fairly exhaustive overview of the maritime history of the Netherlands, depicted by scale models of ships, nautical instruments, paintings, maps, atlas (Atlas Blaeu). The Amsterdam, moored alongside other vessels, is the museum's pride and joy. The three-master is a replica of the 18C vessel Batavia.
