Egmond aan Zee

Egmond aan Zee
The Essential
This small seaside resort is in the middle of the dunes. At the foot of the lighthouse, the statue of a lion symbolises the heroism of Lieutenant van Speijk who, on 5 February 1831, near Anvers, blew up his gunboat, along with all those on board rather than surrender to the Belgians. In the upper town, the small Museum van Egmond charts the life of yesteryear's fishermen and the plundering of wrecks.
