This quay is lined with a fine collection of restored houses. For the most part old merchants' houses, they boast façades typical of Hoorn with carved wooden pillars. Some, adorned with fine stone façades, are topped with stepped or bell-shaped gables. Note the house of the navigator Willem Bontekoe (1587-1657), the façade of which features a black and white cow (koe = cow, bonte = black and white).
