Lined by terraces buzzing with life and a joyful atmosphere, this square was in turn the 16C Binnenhof's vegetable garden, an ornamental garden, the tramway end station, then a car park. Today it is surrounded by different ministries and cafés, including the De Witte, a gentlemen's club, where women are not admitted. A statue of William the Silent (1848) stands in the middle. It is a popular spot for afterwork drinks for office workers.
