Huygensmuseum

This manor house (Hofwijck) surrounded by water was built between 1641 and 1643 following the design of Constantijn Huygens, the first secretary of the stadhouters Frederick Henry, William II and William III, who wanted to retire from the court and live there in peace. His son Christiaan, inventor of the pendulum clock, a physician and an astronomer of international renown, also spent the end of his life there. The collections in the museum are memories of this family.
