Fields of flowers at Keukenhof
The most common flowers in the Netherlands are tulips, gladioli, narcissi and hyacinths. Nevertheless many other flowers are cultivated, such as irises, crocuses, dahlias and anemones. Spring, from mid-March seems to be the best time to explore the region. Cut into narrow multi-coloured strips separated by the canals, the plain resembles a giant mosaic. If your budget stretches that far, book a flight in a small plane over the flower fields.
