Boijmans van Beuningen Museum
On the outskirts of the Museumpark, the Museum of Fine Art occupies a 1935 edifice, to which several wings have been added over the years, the last of which is a bold concrete and glass structure in 2003. As well as a fine collection of Old Masters (notably magnificent works by Bruegel the Elder, Rembrandt and Rubens), the museum boasts a massive collection of modern and contemporary art, prints, sketches and a decorative arts section.
Netherlands: Rotterdam by boat and by bike
Around 90% of the town was destroyed by the German bombing raids in 1940 which meant that Rotterdam has, in the second part of the 20th century, become a experimental site for modern architecture. It is now filled with skyscrapers. The town has received contributions from some of the greatest names in architecture from Álvaro Siza to Norman Foster and includes local talent such as Rem Koolhas.Discover
