Zierikzee, the main centre of the island of Schouwen-Duiveland (Delta), is surrounded by a canal that comes into the town via a Renaissance-style double gate and two little moving bridges, and its ancient character is well preserved. Pretty 16C-18C buildings add to the charm of this little port situated on the Gouwe. The town was also the residence of the Counts of Holland and Zeeland. To learn more about the town, visit the town hall museum which is dedicated to its history.
