When to go
Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons to go to Poland: the weather is mild and the tourists in manageable numbers. It is also the ideal time of the year to quietly explore the country’s many National parks, particularly beautiful in spring and the forests, which are particularly stunning in autumn.
The summers are hot, even stifling inland. At this time of year, your best option is to stick to the long beaches of the Baltic, go hiking in the mountains or swimming in the lakes. The tourist sites are however overflowing and the hiking paths can grind to a standstill. It is however the height of the festival season. In July, Cracow stages many festivals: street theatre, jazz, folk music and courtly danse.
The winter season is cold and dry, except by the Baltic where it is wet. A large portion of the country is snowbound, particularly up in the mountains. At this time of year, don’t miss the chance to see the ice yachting races in the Masurian Lake District.
