This tiny village used to be a prosperous Roman town close to the route linking Mérida to Astorga. It is something of an open-air museum. You will see a tower built by the Templars in the 13C on the foundations of a Roman temple, a cathedral of paleo-Christian origin, which although rebuilt five times still preserves vestiges of all these phases, a rebuilt Roman bridge from the Middle Ages and many other remains.
