The Essential
The ruined castle was built by the Moors and commands lovely views over the Serra do Caldeirão. You can see two walls dating from the Neolithic Age to the northeast of the village, on a wild and craggy height: the Rocha da Pena (479m). The local plant and animal life is protected due to its abundance, and you might spot royal owls, Bonelli eagles, round-tailed eagles, as well as foxes, genets and mongooses.
