The small town of Monchique nestles in the greenery on the eastern slopes of Foia. It has a church that is famous for its Manueline doorway. From the belvedere on the fairground, there is an interesting view over the terraced neighbourhoods opposite Mont Picota. The road, heading to Mont Fóia, climbs the highest slopes of the Serra de Monchique. After a few kilometres beneath the pine trees and eucalyptus, the view opens out to the south.
