Statue of Doctor Sousa Martins
Lisbon is full of unusual sights hidden away in unexpected places. In Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, for instance, the statue of DoctorSousa Martins (1843-1897) stands surrounded by marble plaques and candles. The doctor, who never abandoned a hopeless case, has become a cult figure with Lisbonites and the Portuguese in general.
