The only sheltered harbour on the north coast is protected by a flat strip of land that stretches out towards a round island, Ilheu Mole. Until 1981, whaling was carried out here. The village now lives off tourism thanks to the arrival of an express route, making it easier to reach. To the north of the village, the coast is dotted with pointed reefs, amid which a sea-water swimming pool has been built.
