Priego de Córdoba
The beautiful town of Priego de Córdoba lies at the foot of the Tiñosa peak in the heart of the Sierras Subbéticas. The town is the true capital of Córdoban Baroque and its streets bear witness to its glorious past. However, it was the 18C that brought the silk industry and with it an economic high point, heralding a period of unprecedented artistic and cultural splendour. Priego is the birthplace of many famous people, including Niceto Alcalá-Zamora, President of the Spanish Republic from 1931 to 1936. Today, with its fine churches, fountains and Moorish quarter, it is full of surprises.
