Interesting
Built on a terrace in the valley of the River Aragón, Jaca is overlooked by the Peña de Oroel. Its well-preserved 16C citadel serves as a reminder of its strategic position. In the early 11C, Sancho Ramírez made it the first capital of Aragón, then in 1064, Ramiro I founded a cathedral here. Today, its location at the end of the Somport Pass makes it a busy transit route and a stopover for skiers in winter, hikers in summer and pilgrims on the Way of St James.
