This village founded in 1356 is home to an impressive number of 17C and 18C palaces on only a few streets, the heritage of the fortunes amassed from trade with the New World. Berriochoa (Berriotxoa) is the most richly decorated with coats of arms, but you can also see lovely façades in the Calle San Pio X, Calle Gernikako, Calle Erreka and Urarka, to name but a few. The Basílica de la Purísima Concepción (Church of the Immaculate Conception) houses relics of the patron saint of Biscay, St Valentín de Berriochoa (1827-1861).
