The Essential
The island's capital from the 15C to 19C, Teguise boasts beautifully restored fine buildings and a very pleasant pedestrian centre. It is also the glorious town inhabited by the Bethencourt and Herrera families. Plaza de la Constitución is dominated by Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, one of the largest churches on the island and done out with neo-Gothic decor. Go inside the Casa Museo del Timple, in the Palacio Spinola, to learn a bit about the musical culture of the Canary Islands.
