Situated at an altitude of 1,000m, Segovia, a Unesco World Heritage Site, clings to a rocky spur overlooking the arid Castilian plain. Spanning some twenty centuries of history, its spectacular Roman aqueduct links the commercial lower town with the historic upper town. The latter is depicted by a dense network of narrow streets, radiating out from the bustling Plaza Mayor, and is home to many delightful constructions such as the Alcázar, an architectural gem, and the magnificent cathedral, built during the reign of Charles V.
