Once past the rather ugly ring-road that is an inevitable feature of most modern towns, Valladolid unfolds before the visitor on the right bank of the River Pisuerga. Puente Mayor, Plaza Zorrilla and Plaza de San Pablo form a golden triangle rich in souvenirs of the Castilian court and elegant 1900s architecture greets the eye on every street corner. The collection of the San Gregorio National Museum alone is worth the detour.
