Vielha is located in the Arán valley, on the banks of the River Garonne. Capital of the valley and a popular tourist destination, the town boasts some fine old districts, including the Eth Cap dera Vila (the "top of the town"), home to several fine 16C-17C mansions. The speciality of the region is olha aranesa, a delicious casserole made from lamb, veal, bacon, black botifarra and vegetables.
