The Essential
This village in the Arán valley east of Vielha is home to the 11C church of Sant Pièr, one of the finest examples of Aranese Romanesque architecture. One of the characteristic features of this Romanesque style, which emerged later than in other regions, is the basilica-style layout of the churches, which have three naves with barrel vaulting, as well as apsidal chapels. The small mountain village has narrow little streets lined by slate-roofed stone houses (Çò de Perejoan, 1393).
