Estella-Lizarra lies on both banks of the Ega and is known as the "capital of Navarre's Romanesque art", thanks to the rich architectural heritage of its historical centre. Indeed, it was an important staging post on the Way of St James, where pilgrims came to worship Our Lady of the Puy. Meat-eaters might want to try the local speciality: milk-fed pig, which is so well prepared here it is said to be the best in the region.
