This Cistercian monastery between Santo Domingo de la Calzada and Nájera was founded in 1170 and is still home to nuns of the Order of St Bernard of Clairvaux. Its 16C church and the chapterhouse are extraordinary examples of Cistercian art. The simplicity of the place, barely disturbed by its discreet floral decorations, exudes a great sense of spirituality. The monastery's artworks (retables, paintings and sculptures) are exhibited in the former storeroom.
