Useful information : When to go
When to go
Scandinavia enjoys a temperate climate thanks to the Gulf Stream. If you are willing to brave the winter, you will actually experience quite bearable temperatures whilst being able to go skiing and dogsledding. This is also the ideal time of the year to contemplate the Northern Lights. If you are in Norway in March, don’t miss the departure of the Finnmarksløpet at Alta, the greatest dogsled race in Europe.
The peak tourist season is however in summer, when the sun never sets and the temperatures are mild, even hot in the south of the peninsula. It is even possible to go swimming in the water around Stockholm or off the beaches of Denmark. This period is also rich in celebrations and festivals. The whole of Sweden celebrates the summer solstice, Midsommar, around June 21. In July, Copenhagen’s Jazz Festival sets the entire city buzzing.
Spring and autumn are more subdued and the weather more uncertain.
