The square dates from the 1530s. At its centre stands theequestrian statue of Charles X Gustav, who annexed Scåne, Blekinge and Halland to Sweden in 1658. The fountain (1964) is by Stig Blomberg. Thetown hall , built in 1546 in Dutch Renaissance style and reworked circa 1860, is on the east side. To the north stands theGovernor's Residence (17C) andJörgen Kocks Gård (1523), a massive gabled building with redans that belonged to the burgomaster and Director of the Mint, Jörgen Kock. To the south is thepharmacy , which dates from 1571.
