The Essential
The magnificent royal residence of Drottningholm (late 17C to early 18C), consisting of a palace, theatre, gardens and Chinese pavilion, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace is located on the island of Lovön on Lake Mälar. Arriving by boat (an hour-long crossing from Stockholm) gives you a beautiful view of the main façade and entrance. The Swedish royal family has lived in the south wing since 1981.
