This harmoniously proportioned Baroque palace was built by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger and completed in 1705. At the end of the 18C, Steninge became the property of Axel von Fersen, a Swedish diplomat posted to Paris who vowed eternal love to Marie Antoinette and tried to save the royal family. Several buildings are dotted around the palace, in particular a huge stone barn dating from the end of the 19C. Now a cultural centre, Steninge house is home to a glass workshop and an art gallery.
