Leuk
The Essential
At the end of the Dala Gorge, Leuk rises up in tiers overlooking the Rhône Valley amidst scenery that is typical of the southern Valais region. The castle of Vidommes, at the entrance to the town, owes its name to the vidames of the French Ancien Régime, a title given to officials in the service of the bishop or the abbot entrusted with the defence of their interests and the command of troops. Not far away, the crenelated square tower of Majors Castle (15C and quite dilapidated) cannot be missed.
