The little town of Grandson lies at the southernmost end of peaceful Lake Neuchâtel, some distance from the foothills of the Jura. It has remained famous for the bloody battle of 1476 in which Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, was defeated by Confederate troops. Grandson is worth a detour for its impressive castle, built on a superb lakeside site.
