Oare

Oare
The Essential
This charming village at the end of a green valley, only a few miles from the coast, owes its fame entirely to the novel Lorna Doone written by Richard Doddridge Blackmore in 1869. Beyond Oare, heading towards Lynmouth, the panoramic road offers splendid views of fields and hedges to one side and the sea and ochre-coloured cliffs to the other, battered by impressive waves. Indifferent to this natural beauty, sheep somehow manage to graze here, balanced precariously on the steep slopes.
