The Essential
Interesting
Built on the banks of a river, St Albans has a historic feel. Excavations carried out here in the 1930s and 1950s revealed the ruins of the third largest city in Roman Britain, known as Verulamium. These impressive remains are the pride of the town, which is also famous for its cathedral built on the opposite side of the river.
