Harrogate is a town popular with tourists, located close to Yorkshire's valleys and moors. The spa's Royal Pump Room (1842) and Royal Baths Assembly Room (1897) were the hub of this town during its heyday in the late 19C, when some 60 000 visitors took the waters here every year. In total, there are 36, mostly sulphurous, springs within an area of about half a hectare.
