Bolton Castle

It is a comfortable period residence and was built around an interior courtyard. For defence, the castle had solid corner towers, small towers and a portcullis. All the part in the south-eastern corner could be closed to make a separate keep. Mary Stuart was held prisoner here 1568-1569. The castle is still perfectly preserved, despite being attacked after the Civil War.
