St Mary's Church

Once part of Holyrood Abbey, the parish church (15C) is a light red sandstone building with gables and short tower that is typically Scottish. The holy source makes this a great centre of pilgrimage, visited in 1435 by the legate of the Pope, Eneas Sylvius Piccolomini, future Pope Pius II. Burned down by the Suffragettes in 1914, the church was restored by Robert Lorimer.
