Set on the banks of the River Lossie in the rich Moray coastal farming region, the charming town of Elgin is Moray's administrative centre. The medieval plan has been preserved and the main street connects the famous cathedral to the site of the old castle. Some say that Elgin Cathedral was the finest cathedral in Scotland. Today, its majestic beige-coloured ruins give an idea of its past splendour and stands as a monument to the intensive church-building period of the 13C.
